Why We Do It

WIND Youth Services is a local non-profit 501(c)(3) agency that was established in 1994 to directly address the immediate and long-range needs of the Sacramento area homeless, runaway, and street youth and their families. We began our work in response to the increasing number of homeless youth that were not being served by any other agency.

Our Main Focus
Is to provide homeless/street youth with help to move from crisis to healthy functioning. Our activities follow a strength-based youth development format nationally recognized as a "best practice" approach to working with vulnerable youth that builds on the individual strengths and abilities of each young person.

Our Mission Statement
"WIND Youth Services engages youth experiencing homelessness who need safety from the streets and access to resources to help them move from crisis to healthy functioning and independence."

Our Philosophy
At WIND we believe that each young person is special with unique strengths and talents.  With the support of our caring and professional staff these youth have the opportunity to achieve healthy functioning and self-sufficiency. Through forming nurturing, trusting relationships and involving them in meaningful personal and community activities, they will improve their skills, self-esteem and ability to pursue safe, healthy, happy lives.
