Thanks so much for your interest in volunteering with Wind Youth Services! The work of our volunteers is so important, and we are grateful that you chose to support us with your time, energy, and talent. We engage volunteers in all facets of our organization and work hard to ensure that each volunteer is matched with an appropriate opportunity.
The following are the categories of volunteers we are seeking to fill:
Lunch at Drop-In Center
Volunteers are welcome to help cook lunch or bring ready to eat lunches to our Drop-In Center to feed approximately 25 people.
Dinner at Shelter
Volunteers can also provide dinner for the shelter. Meals can be prepared at the shelter or delivered ready to eat, to feed 13 people.
Sort, Support, and Clean
As needed, volunteers may sign up to provide support for the Admin or Counseling Departments. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, shredding, filing, copying, cleaning, or organizing.
Volunteers are consistently needed to write thank-you cards to supporters and donors.
Friday is a consistently scheduled clean-up day. Volunteers can sign up to come in on any Friday afternoon and assist Drop-In Center Staff with cleaning and organizing the Drop-In Center. This may also include sorting donations.
Group work projects will be posted regularly. These tasks may include landscaping, painting, construction, etc.
Floor support volunteers are required to attend more intensive training as well as make a commitment to volunteer at Wind for a minimum of one year. Floor Support volunteers will be responsible for:
- making sure the clothing closet and hygiene supplies are stocked and well organized
- assisting with meal prep or kitchen clean-up as necessary
- retrieving supplies for youth as requested
- helping staff with admin tasks related to the Drop-In Cente
- workshop presenter
- sharing skills and knowledge with youth
The Community Resource Coordinator will contact you if there is youth or staff interest on a presentation, workshops, or event in your area of expertise. Presentations may be scheduled at the Drop-In Center, Shelters, TAY House, or Permanent Supportive Housing apartments.
Wind Youth Services is always changing, growing, and trying innovative ways to best serve the youth in our community. As new opportunities arise, we will inform our volunteers of ways they can help us and make a difference in the lives of youth experiencing homelessness.
